Her papers would tell you she is a champion and a companion dog excellant, but
she just knew her name was "Sky". She wasn't my first dog, or even my first
show dog, but she was something very special. She was my once-in-a-lifetime
dog, the one who touches your soul and you carry with you all your life. If you've
had such a special relationship with a dog, you will know what I mean. She was
with me through some important times in my life: the teenage years, college, my
first real job, my marriage and birth of my children, my first house. Through it all,
she was the only constant. She saw me go from someone who was very
competitive about dog events to someone who realized what really is the
measure of a dog's worth: not titles on a piece of paper, but the look in the eyes
of a trusted, faithful friend. In her last years, even though her eyes and ears
were failing her, and she seemed to always be sound asleep, if I left the room,
soon I would hear her slow old footsteps in the hall. Her only wish was to be
where I was, and she always found me, wherever. She would always try her best
to do whatever I asked her to do. I asked her to live forever. In the end, I saw
that wasn't fair, and I had to let her go. Rest in peace, dear friend, you'll always
be with me.
